Supported operating systems & server requirements

OrbixPanel installs a full hosting stack, so it expects a clean, supported server it can configure from scratch. Check this page before you install.

Supported operating systems

OSStatus
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS✅ Recommended
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS✅ Supported
Ubuntu 26.04✅ Supported
Debian 12 (Bookworm)✅ Supported

The installer checks your OS and runs on Ubuntu and Debian only. Anything else is refused to avoid a half-configured server.

Not supported: CentOS, RHEL, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, Fedora, Arch, Windows, and macOS. If you’re on one of these, spin up an Ubuntu or Debian VM/VPS instead.

CPU architecture

Both common server architectures work:

  • x86_64 / amd64 — standard cloud and dedicated servers.
  • ARM64 / aarch64 — ARM instances (AWS Graviton, Ampere, Raspberry Pi-class, etc.).

OrbixPanel installs a pre-built agent for your architecture, or builds from source if a pre-built binary isn’t available for your platform.

Server specs

ResourceMinimumRecommended
RAM1 GB2 GB+ (4–8 GB if you run the local AI copilot)
Disk10 GB20 GB+
Accessroot (or sudo to root)—

A fresh server is strongly recommended. The installer sets up and manages these services, and existing installations of them can conflict:

  • nginx (web server + reverse proxy)
  • PostgreSQL and MySQL/MariaDB (databases)
  • Redis (cache)
  • Postfix + Dovecot and webmail (email)
  • BIND (self-hosted DNS)
  • fail2ban (brute-force protection) and certbot (free SSL)

Virtual machines & containers

OrbixPanel runs great on VMs and VPS instances (KVM, Xen, VMware, Hyper-V, cloud instances). Inside lightweight containers (LXC/Docker) it needs enough privileges to run systemd and bind services — a full VM or VPS is the reliable choice.

Still not sure?

If your provider offers “Ubuntu 24.04 LTS” as an image on a VPS with 2 GB RAM and root access, you’re in the sweet spot. Head to Install OrbixPanel →.
