Import a cPanel backup into OrbixPanel
OrbixPanel can import a standard cPanel backup archive, restoring your website files and MySQL databases in one step.
1. Generate the backup in cPanel
On your old host:
- cPanel → Backup → Download a Full Account Backup (or your host’s “full backup” option).
- You’ll get a
.tar.gzarchive containinghomedir/(your files) andmysql/(your databases).
2. Import it into OrbixPanel
- Open the Migration tool in the panel.
- Provide the backup archive and the target domain for the site.
- Start the import.
OrbixPanel then:
- Extracts the archive.
- Restores your MySQL databases from the backup’s
mysql/dumps. - Installs your website files into the new site’s web root
(
/var/www/<your domain>— note OrbixPanel serves from the domain folder, not a nestedpublic_html; see where files go).
You get a report of what was restored and anything that needs attention.
3. Finish the parts the import doesn’t cover
The import focuses on files + databases — the irreplaceable core. Set these up fresh (they’re quick):
- Database connection — update your app’s config to the new
credentials (
127.0.0.1:3306). - Email — recreate mailboxes/forwarders and DKIM/SPF/DMARC.
- DNS + SSL — point the domain and request SSL.
- Cron jobs — re-add any scheduled tasks.
Then run the post-migration checklist.
Tips
- Migrate before changing DNS, so the old site stays live until the new one is tested.
- Big site? A large archive takes longer to upload and extract — be patient and watch the report.
