Backups & disaster recovery
Backups are the difference between a bad hour and a bad week. Set them up before you need them.
Backups
Backups schedules and runs backups of sites, databases, and configuration.
- Create a backup job — choose what to include (files, databases, mail), the schedule (e.g. daily), and retention (how many to keep).
- Pick a destination — ideally off-server (object storage / remote) so a lost server doesn’t take the backups with it.
- Run one now to verify it works.
Restore
From a backup, restore a whole account or pick individual files/databases. Test a restore periodically — an untested backup isn’t a backup.
Disaster recovery
Disaster Recovery covers the bigger picture: restoring to a new server if the current one is lost.
- Keep backups off-site and recent.
- Document the rebuild: install OrbixPanel, restore accounts, re-point DNS.
- Know your RPO/RTO (how much data you can lose / how fast you must be back) and set backup frequency to match.
Store at least one recent backup somewhere the production server can’t reach — that’s what saves you from ransomware and accidental deletion alike.
