Update and maintain your apps without SSH
Keeping apps healthy means occasional dependency installs, rebuilds, and database migrations. OrbixPanel’s App Maintenance lets an admin run these from the panel — no SSH needed.
App Maintenance (admin)
From the panel you can run common maintenance actions against an app server-side:
- Install / update dependencies (e.g.
npm install, composer install). - Build the app.
- Run database migrations (e.g. Prisma, framework migrations).
These run with the right permissions through OrbixPanel’s agent, so you don’t need a root shell. It’s the clean way to do the privileged steps the web terminal can’t.
App Maintenance is an admin feature. For apps deployed from Git, the usual update path is simply to redeploy.
A simple maintenance routine
- Update dependencies on a schedule and after security advisories — watch advisories.
- Re-run migrations when you ship schema changes (Laravel/Django/Prisma).
- Rebuild after updating front-end code or dependencies.
- Back up first — always back up the database before running a migration.
Updating different app types
| App type | Update by |
|---|---|
| Git-deployed app | push + redeploy |
| WordPress / CMS | the app’s own update feature + secure it |
| Node/Python/PHP deps | App Maintenance (install) or redeploy |
| Database schema | App Maintenance (migrate), after a backup |
Keep it healthy
- Scan for malware regularly.
- Monitor resources.
- Keep backups current and tested.
