Add email aliases
An alias is an extra address that delivers into an existing mailbox. It lets
one inbox answer to several names — sales@, info@, hello@ — without creating
(or paying attention to) separate accounts.
Alias vs forwarder vs mailbox
- Mailbox — a real inbox with storage and a login.
- Alias — another name for an existing mailbox on your domain; mail arrives in that same inbox.
- Forwarder — sends mail on to a different destination (often an external address like Gmail).
Rule of thumb: alias = same inbox, extra name; forwarder = send it elsewhere. See mailboxes & forwarders.
Add an alias
- In the panel’s Email area, pick the domain.
- Add an alias, giving the new address and the existing mailbox it should deliver to.
Now mail to the alias lands in that mailbox alongside everything else.
Good uses
- Role addresses —
support@,billing@,info@into one shared inbox. - Vanity/campaign addresses — a throwaway name for a signup form or a flyer, which you can delete later without losing the mailbox.
- Tidy inboxes — filter on the alias the mail came in on.
Tips
- Sending as an alias: aliases receive by default. To send from one, add it as a sending identity in your mail client.
- Don’t overdo role addresses — too many unattended inboxes means missed mail; point them at one monitored mailbox.
