Post-migration checklist
The files and database are across — now verify the site actually works end to end before you cancel the old host. Run this list.
Site & content
- Home page loads at
https://yourdomain.com(not a subfolder). - Internal links, images, and downloads work (no 404s).
- Forms submit and dynamic pages render (the database connection is right).
- No mixed-content warnings — all assets load over
https://. For WordPress, run a search-replace ofhttp://→https://.
HTTPS / SSL
- SSL issued and the padlock shows.
-
http://redirects tohttps://.
- Mailboxes/forwarders recreated.
- MX record points to the new server.
- SPF, DKIM, DMARC set — send a test to Gmail and check all PASS.
- A test email actually arrives in the inbox, not spam.
DNS
- A/AAAA records point to the new IP;
dig +short yourdomain.comconfirms it. - Any subdomains and CNAMEs recreated.
Behind the scenes
- Cron jobs re-added and running.
- App config/secrets set as environment variables.
- Database credentials updated to the new DB.
- A fresh backup is configured and has run once.
Performance & security
- Modern PHP + OPcache (PHP sites).
- Firewall allows only 22/80/443 (+ mail/DNS).
- Run the hardening checklist.
Finally
- Monitor the new server for a few days.
- Then cancel the old host — not before.
