Install OrbixPanel on a fresh server

OrbixPanel installs with a single command on a fresh server. This guide walks through the prerequisites, the interactive prompts, and what you get at the end.

For the full, feature-by-feature installation reference, see the OrbixPanel documentation.

Before you start

You’ll need:

  • A fresh server — a VPS or cloud instance running Ubuntu 22.04 / 24.04 or Debian 12, with at least 2 GB RAM and 20 GB disk (the installer adds swap automatically on low-RAM boxes). Install on a clean server — it sets up nginx, databases, mail and DNS.

  • Root access. Run everything as root. If you log in as a sudo user, switch to a root shell first:

    Terminal window
    sudo su
  • A domain (recommended). A domain unlocks free SSL and a public landing page. You can skip it for an IP-only install, but SSL and email deliverability need a domain.

Step 1 — Point your DNS at the server

If you’re using a domain, add these A records at your registrar before installing, so the installer can issue SSL certificates:

TypeNameValue
Ayourdomain.comyour server’s IP
Awww.yourdomain.comyour server’s IP

DNS usually propagates in 5–30 minutes. If it hasn’t propagated when you install, SSL is simply skipped — you re-run the installer later to finish it.

Step 2 — Run the installer

As root:

Terminal window
bash <(curl -fsSL https://orbixpanel.com/install.sh)

The installer is interactive and will ask:

  • Domain name — enter your domain (or press Enter to skip for IP-only).
  • Install profile:
    • Personal — a single-owner panel (default).
    • Reseller — run a hosting business: customer accounts, plans, billing.
  • Storefront domain (reseller only) — where your public hosting website lives: the same domain (your homepage becomes the storefront), a subdomain/separate domain, or skip for now.
  • It then shows the DNS records to confirm and waits for you to continue.

Installation takes a few minutes. It sets up nginx, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, Redis, mail (Postfix/Dovecot + webmail), self-hosted DNS (BIND), the panel and agent, and — if your domain resolves — free SSL via Let’s Encrypt.

Step 3 — What you get

When it finishes, the installer prints your access URLs and a claim link with your license key (OBX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX):

  • Panel: https://yourdomain.com:8080
  • Website / landing: https://yourdomain.com
  • Docs: https://docs.yourdomain.com

It also starts a free 30-day trial and notes how many founding-user slots are left.

Step 4 — Claim your account

The last step is to claim your Orbix Cloud account and lock in your credits — including the $100 founding-user bonus for the first 100 installs.

Troubleshooting

  • SSL was skipped / “domain does not resolve yet”. DNS hadn’t propagated when you installed. Wait for propagation, then re-run the installer — it detects the existing setup and only completes SSL.
  • Can’t reach the panel on :8080. Make sure your firewall / cloud security group allows inbound TCP 8080 (and 80/443 for the website).
  • The server prompts to restart services during install. That’s expected on Ubuntu; the installer handles it automatically.
